    Who organizes the art prizes?

    WHO ORGANIZES THE ART PRIZES?

Which companies are committed to organizing and promoting art awards? Let’s find out together

The art awards have always aimed to discover and enhance new artistic talents within a cultural landscape of national and international importance.

But who are the organizers of an art prize?

The types can be many and varied: from cultural associations to private companies; from Institutional Bodies to art fairs and biennials.

Regardless of the entity represented, the person who decides to promote an art prize must have the following purposes:

    • Enhance contemporary art and build a mapping of its current state.
    • To ensure that artists can be noticed by the general public and by the jury made up of important names in the contemporary art scene.
    • Create an increasingly authoritative and accessible art system by involving new players.
    • Propose concrete opportunities for growth and momentum for the professional career of artists.
    • Offer opportunities for meetings and discussions between artists and professionals for the development of creativity and its experimentation.

In addition to prizes, these realities have always been committed to enhancing initiatives and services for culture and the arts, also promoting other types of events such as :

    • Cultural events
    • Art exhibitions
    • Workshop and educational activities
    • Conventions and conferences

The organizers of the awards generally do not work alone but are always supported by important partners and sponsors, such as Associations, Public and Private Bodies, who want to offer their contribution to support emerging and established artists, finding new ways to enhance, promote and reward the art.

Why reselling a stolen work of art is hard

WHY RESELLING A STOLEN ARTWORK IS VERY HARD

Making money from the theft of a work is very complicated: let’s find out why

Famous art theft expert Robert Wittmann argues that people who steal works of art are often good thieves but bad sellers.

Why is reselling a stolen work of art so difficult?

Let’s understand it together by analyzing the various scenarios.

Resale of the work in full

Unlike a jewel that can be divided into parts or merged, by reselling the precious materials of which it is made, a work of art cannot be dismembered and it is not possible to sell its raw materials.

Resale to the museum with redemption

It often happens that thieves try to resell the work to the museum from which it was stolen by asking for a ransom or by waiting for the museum to announce a reward for returning the work. However, this occurs very rarely because museums refuse to negotiate with criminals, taking legal risks.

    Redemption of the insurance

It is not uncommon for thieves to try to redeem the work directly from the insurance company. On the other hand, this tactic does not always work because it depends on the redemption conditions provided by the policy.

Resale at auction or through a dealer

Yet another way is represented by the sale through auction houses or dealers, if the work has not yet been reported as stolen. Conversely, the thief will have a hard time finding auction houses or professional dealers who neglect their due diligence as there are several databases of stolen works of art, from the Art Loss Register to the FBI and Interpol, which are easily accessible before proceed with a purchase.

    Black Market

According to experts, the black market is a last resort for art thieves hoping to make a profit from their theft. However, it is still a risky operation because, not being certified and accompanied by the necessary documentation, it could be mistaken for a fake and therefore ignored or resold at a value that is minimally comparable to the actual one.

It often happens that thieves steal by gathering some information on the growing market value of works of art, without considering that their value depends on their authenticity and their history, as evidenced by the relevant certificates of authenticity and legal provenance.

Without these documents, the work of art is essentially unsaleable.

Among the technological solutions available to support the certification of works of art, we find Art Rights, the first platform to support the management and certification of works of art for the protection of Artists, Collectors, Galleries and sector operators in favor of authenticity .

Interview with Karen Levy, Digital Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

The interviews of Art Rights Prize

Interview with Karen Levy, Collector and Founder AIKA – Digital Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

Art Rights Magazine, Media Partner of Art Rights Prize, the first International Digital Prize for Artists 3.0, presents every week the Judges that make up the Jury of Experts of the Art System and the Art Market.

In the perspective of comparison and meeting between Artists and Art Professionals, the Jury of Art Rights Prize boasts the participation of 15 Judges who offer a personal and professional preview of the importance of Art Awards, advice on the best way to submit their candidacy together with the motivations that should push an artist to participate in an art award

She is the daughter of art and passion runs through her veins, passed on by her collector parents.

In the fate of Karen Levy, Founder of “The Art of This Century” and recently co-founder of AiKA – Strategy & Art Connection, there were the artists, communication and innovation of the art world.

She is convinced of this: we live in the digital age, so art and artists should be able to experience unprecedented opportunities through new technologies for the use, display, sale and promotion of their works.

That’s why Karen is part of the Digital Art Jury for the Art Rights Prize and in this interview she tells us why it is important to participate in the prizes for artists and what are the factors that affect her in the applications…

    Karen Levy

Karen Levy worked at Sotheby’s London Private Client Group, where she was responsible for European and Asian clients.

Previously, he worked at other major art institutions and auction houses such as Phillips and Asia Society, and coordinated the “Art of the World” project at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

He founded the event agency “The Art of this Century”, providing tailor-made experiences and special encounters in the world of art, while in 2019 he co-founded AiKA – Strategy & Art Connection.

Karen actively participates in the construction of her family’s private collection, DSLcollection, an important Western collection focused on Chinese contemporary art.

1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?

Winning a prize can give an artist an important exposure but also raises the question of who really benefits.

Personally the prize that I follow is the Turner prize which was established by the Tate because collectors outside the UK are familiar with the Turner Prize and the way in which it bestows legitimacy on artists, both critically and commercially.

The Venice Biennal pavilion prize is also interesting but it is more about already established artists an Art prize definitely adds to the provenance of an artist to have won the Turner Prize or represented a country at the Venice Biennale”.

However, the work itself outweighs any related awards

2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?

He must take into account that it is a competition and do the best of the best to try to win it. He should also not neglect to communicate a lot at the same time

3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?

All factors have to be taken into account. But personally I’ll focus on the quality of the work and the potential of the artist.

If you are an artist, what are you waiting for?

How to recognize the validity of an art prize

HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE VALIDITY OF AN ART PRIZE

Some parameters to measure the authority of an art prize

“This award is interesting. But can I trust it?”

If you are an artist, who knows how many times you have thought of participating in an art prize but, in the end, you gave up because you feared it was a scam or a not very serious competition.

Indeed, in the world of art, there are so many national and international awards that it is legitimate to have doubts and worries when it comes to making a choice.

However, there are some parameters that you can take into consideration when it comes to assessing the authority of an art prize. Let’s see them in detail.

    Who is the organizing body?

Everything starts from the reputation and positioning of the reality that decides to organize and promote the award

Find out who he is, what he does, where he is, what his purposes are and how much is accredited in the art and culture system.

    Is there a regulation?

Before any other detail, an artist who wants to understand the validity of an award should immediately read the Regulations, which must be clear, transparent and regulate all aspects of application, participation, deadlines and responsibilities.

The more precise a Regulation is, the more it will be possible to understand the validity and seriousness of the Organizer and the professionals who work for its creation and implementation

If you ask questions, do they answer right away?

Behind a project, whether it is a competition or an art prize, there is a staff made up of people who work to ensure that everything is done with the utmost professionalism and rigor, together with Support and Assistance that must be at the exclusive service of the Artists. .

If you choose to ask questions, ask for further information, request assistance in applying, the staff of a valid Art Award will be able to respond immediately to your requests: this is also a sign of seriousness and professionalism that should not be underestimated.

Who are the Partners and Sponsors?

For companies, deciding to support an event is never easy. This is because it involves cooperation that is not accidental, but based on the affinity of values and the clarity of mutual objectives. Therefore, if the partners and sponsors of the event enjoy notoriety and authority in their respective sectors, they would never risk compromising their image by collaborating with a not very serious reality.

Who is the Jury composed of?

A prestigious jury is an essential element that confers reliability on the award. In this sense, the jury of a prestigious award is always composed of experts of the sector of international importance, with accredited experience and skills that legitimize them to judge the works in the reference category.

What and how many are the prizes?

The quality and quantity of the prizes awarded to the winning artists is a very important fact. In fact, in addition to the possibility of exhibiting one’s works in an international showcase offered by the Final Exhibition, it is a good idea to evaluate the amount of prizes, in money and in services, their purpose and the effective usefulness for professional growth and artistic recognition.

    The Farnesina Collection

    ???????????????????????????????????

    THE FARNESINA COLLECTION

A collection that tells the story of twentieth-century Italian art to the whole world

La Collezione Farnesina è la raccolta d’arte contemporanea del Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale.

The Farnesina Collection is the contemporary art collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

It was founded in 2000 by the will of the then Secretary General Umberto Vattani, with the aim of documenting and enhancing the Italian Art of the early and late twentieth centuries.

Today the collection has almost five hundred works: partly with works from the fifties and sixties and with others of the highest profile that tell the evolution of Italian art from the early twentieth century to today.

The Collection, in fact, offers an insight into the movements that animated the Italian artistic and cultural scene of the first half of the twentieth century, such as Boccioni’s Futurism and de Chirico’s Metaphysics, as well as of the second postwar period, such as the informal art of Burri and Fontana’s spatialism.

The events of the second half of the twentieth century are equally documented, such as the Arte Povera by the trio Kounellis, Merz, Paolini; the pop of Rotella and Schifano; the conceptual art of Manzoni and the perceptive of Bonalumi.

The entire project is based on the free loan, a temporary loan formula that provides for the free loan of a work for a period by artists or their heirs, as well as prestigious museums, galleries and foundations.

Initially, the works were placed in open spaces, in the atriums, in the Staircase of Honor and in the corridors of the ministry spaces. As the collection grew more and more, it also found space in the boardrooms, meeting rooms and offices where diplomats work.

In this way, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can tell and promote Italian art, with its transformations, at an international level as it is enjoyed by an important network of embassies, consulates and cultural institutes from all over the world.

In 2019 the Collection turned 20, acquiring new works by artists such as Burri, Pascali, Zorio, Calzolari, but also by very young people, who represent the future of Italian art, such as Luca Pozzi and Emanuela Becheri.

For such an important collection that is constantly enriched with new works, it becomes essential to have a digital archive, to have a complete and updated history with all the information on the works of art that are part, albeit temporarily, of the collection.

Among the useful tools for archiving works of art we find Art Rights, a platform that offers professionals as well as collectors the opportunity to document, in complete privacy, even the free loan for use of works of art with over 200 fillable fields in the Art Rights Certificate, the first and true “Passport of the work of art”
