Seize the opportunity of an art award to expose yourself without filters and bring out your own artist research.

Without too many frills, here is the best advice from Maria Chiara Valacchi, Art Critic, Curator and Art Writer for the best art magazines, she founded the Milanese non-profit space “Cabinet” and created the online platform that gives space to the best contemporary painting that he called “Paint!”.

Her attention to young emerging art leads her today to fill the role of Judge for the PAINTING Category of the Art Rights Prize, ready to select the best talents for the 3D Virtual Final Exhibition.

In this interview Maria Chiara hits some key points of a good candidacy to keep in mind for all artists, you just have to read it very carefully …

    Maria Chiara Valacchi

Maria Chiara Valacchi is an art critic, independent curator and art writer based in Milan.

Since 2010 he has founded and curated the non-profit space Cabinet in Milan which hosted a series of recognized mid-career international artists.

Since 2014 he has founded and is editor-in-chief of “Paint!” an online platform exclusively dedicated to the dissemination and research of the best contemporary painting, the first to use the direct contribution of illustrious international painters.

Among the main magazines with which he collaborated: Artforum, Flash Art, Arte e Critica, Arte, Muse and Inside.

1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?

I believe that participation in an award offers the possibility of comparing one’s work with that of contemporary colleagues and, which is increasingly rare, to receive an unfiltered judgment in a direct and critical way in the ancient sense of the term.

Beyond the reward, this opportunity, if accepted constructively, can help highlight the strengths and weaknesses of one’s creative research.

The awards also remain a further method of disseminating one’s work.

2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?

Consistent with what has been said before, I would advise not to adapt your work to the critical and aesthetic taste of the jurors or to the current trend but to take the opportunity to expose yourself without filters, in order to learn a professional and alternative point of view of your research. artistic.

3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?

First of all, the expressive power of the work and its ability to record and speak about our present; another important element is also the balance that is established between conceptual intentions and the real quality of the work itself.

Last but not least the professional path and the collaborations with the system.

    Art Prizes for Street Artists

    ART PRIZES FOR STREET ARTISTS

3 valid reasons why a Street Artist can participate in an Art Award

Although they are reluctant to participate in prizes and competitions dedicated to them, even Street Artists over the years have chosen to participate in contests. Among the first to promote prizes for Street Art, the famous and mysterious BANKSY!

Oh yes, because even Banksy years ago established the “Burner Prize” in London, a prize dedicated to graffiti artists, giving away 1,000 euros and a bronze statuette. Many people participate in the competition and among the finalists there are also names of some importance such as Take, Tox, the ATG crew and Cos, but the final prize and the statuette is won by Zomby.

So here are 3 valid reasons for all Street Artists to participate in an art prize:

    1) Visibility and openness on the international scene

An art prize offers young street artists the opportunity to enter a concrete and useful knowledge circuit to get involved, to make themselves known on the contemporary urban art scene at an international level.

    2) Create a network of contacts

Taking part in the award allows you to create a network of direct contact with experts ready to discover young talents and to support them in their path.

    3) Experimentation and professional growth

An art award represents a space open to experimentation and artistic contamination that allows for opportunities for effective growth, for example by winning participation in major festivals dedicated to street art, artistic residencies or support for the production and sale of limited edition works.

Participating in an art prize, submitting works on canvas already performed, murals or graffiti already present in the urban environment, is an opportunity to receive prizes in support of the realization of the works, get in touch with real enthusiasts and get support at an international level

And you, if you are a Street Artist, what are you waiting for?

Interview with Sveva D’Antonio, Juror of the Video Art Category of Art Rights Prize

The interviews of Art Rights Prize

Interview with Sveva D’Antonio, Gallerist and Collector – Video Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

Art Rights Magazine, Media Partner of Art Rights Prize, the first International Digital Prize for Artists 3.0, presents every week the Judges that make up the Jury of Experts of the Art System and the Art Market.

In the perspective of comparison and meeting between Artists and Art Professionals, the Jury of Art Rights Prize boasts the participation of 15 Judges who offer a personal and professional preview of the importance of Art Awards, advice on the best way to submit their candidacy together with the motivations that should push an artist to participate in an art award

“Competing for prizes is part of the training and the sooner you start the better”.

Sveva D’Antonio is convinced of this, collector dedicated with her husband Francesco Taurisano to the family collection consisting of over 400 works, and expert on the art market with years spent in the management of the Laveronica Art Gallery in Modica, left in April 2020 to undertake new international challenges.

Among these, that of promoting and supporting emerging art in all its facets, as well as being part of the MTArt Agency Art Selection Committee, a commission of excellence formed by leading personalities from the art world with the aim of selecting the best talents for the MTArt Agency.

In this interview Sveva reveals the best tips to proceed with your candidacy for the Art Rights Prize.

    Sveva D’Antonio

Graduated in Art History from Suor Orsola Benincasa in Naples in 2013 with a thesis on how certain types of films can be transformed into works of art and enter museum spaces.

Sveva D’Antonio after various internships in contemporary art galleries in Naples and Brussels, started working at the Laveronica gallery in Modica initially as an assistant and then became a partner in 2016. The gallery focuses its research on the human condition through socially and politically engaged art.

In April 2020 Sveva left the gallery to look for new challenges and opportunities for the development of her career.

She recently joined the MTArt Agency Art Selection Committee.

She has always dedicated herself to the family collection, a passion for art that she shares with her husband Francesco since their first meeting. The Taurisano collection now has almost more than 400 works with a focus on emerging artists and the active support of their practices.

1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?

The career of an artist is made up of various factors and can diversify according to the background.

The career of an artist already begins with training and continues in the years to come with the various residences and further specializations.

Competing for prizes is part of the training and the sooner you start the better. In fact, the award can be an excellent opportunity to compare yourself with other artists of the same generation who use the same medium and with industry experts.

The advice and criticisms of the experts serve to better understand the dynamics of the system that certainly cannot be learned in the academies.

So I would say that the award has a formative importance for the artist especially at the beginning of his career and I hope that very young artists will participate and submit their works to us.

2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?

I would definitely recommend being as faithful to his practice as possible, not fixing the work for the prize but convincing us that his narrative is solid and deserving.

Not to be afraid to take risks, to be experimental, uncomfortable, dreamy and romantic.

3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?

The originality of the work and the ability to tell a story.

The strength of the formalization of an idea, the aesthetic form must always go hand in hand with the poetics of the work.

    Artworks tokenization

    ARTWORKS TOKENIZATION

We have already seen how Blockchain technology can revolutionize the art market and one of the ways is the process of Tokenization of works of art.

    But what is the Tokenization?

Tokenization consists of the fragmentation (or securitization) of a single work into several virtual parts, represented by tokens.

Tokens are digital securities or shares made certain and secure by Blockchain technology, a Ledger, a virtual register where information is validated by multiple users, making the entered data incorruptible and confirming the authenticity and truthfulness of the same.

    What does Tokenization allow?

-the sale of a single work in small ownership shares
-a liquid art market aimed at the general public
-to lower the investment threshold, with less risk

The first experience of tokenization applied to art dates back to June 2018. Andy Warhol’s painting “14 Small Electric Chairs” was tokenized with sales of 31.5% of shares corresponding to € 1.7 million.

    What future for tokenization?

There is interest in new forms of investment in art, especially among the younger ones, with the birth of the so-called Millennial Collectors, but still many limits in the use of tokenization for art in particular, which have critical points such as the possession of work, its insurance, its use and enhancement.

But the moment in which new technologies will be increasingly present in the art market is getting closer and closer, today the Blockchain arrives in a concrete way to be applied to professional tools such as Art Rights, which offer the opportunity to create a value chain information on works of art in favor of all the protagonists of the art world, in total privacy and security.

And you, are you ready to learn about technologies for art?

World of Art at risk: the damage caused by the lockdown in the Deloitte Report.

World of Art at risk: the damage caused by the lockdown in the Deloitte Report.

Ineffective digitization, market in crisis and scarce presence of qualified personnel: this is what emerges from the recent report published by Deloitte.

Yesterday the first edition of “The state of the art. A photograph of the Art & Finance sector at the time of Covid-19” was presented by the Deloitte experts

Ernesto Lanzillo – Deloitte Private Leader, Barbara Tagliaferri – Art & Finance Coordinator for Deloitte Italy and Pietro Ripa – Private Banker Fideuram addressed the results of the report, the result of a survey conducted in the last 2 months, involving over 1,000 stakeholders – artists, collectors , operators, academics and art lovers – and shows a disturbing photograph of the current artistic landscape.

Research and innovation in the digital field

Despite the significant increase in initiatives and digital communication strategies to make up for the lack of the physical, the digital race is not over for the world of art. In fact, 31% of respondents confirm the low effectiveness of the digital tools made available, both in terms of use (used by 65% of stakeholders) and for the purchase of works of art (3.5%).

Of course, the world of art has taken a step forward in the digitization process, but it is only at the beginning!

    Market and use of art

The data speak for themselves: the world of art is in deep crisis

In fact, auction houses recorded a 60% drop in turnover in the first half of 2020, also considering online and hybrid auctions (half live and half streaming). Art galleries, as the report produced by Art Basel in collaboration with UBS shows, have lost 36% of collections compared to the same period in 2019, with the smaller galleries dropping up to 50%.

Professional figures and skills for the art market of tomorrow

With the advent of digital, it clearly emerged that the art system needs new professional skills and therefore new “hybrid” figures, capable of encouraging, even in times of crisis, the development of strategies suitable for the survival of the market.

It is therefore difficult to look at a quick revival of the art system.

However, platforms capable of responding to the requests of museums, galleries, artists and collectors to improve the future of art through the use of new technologies and networking between professionals with specific skills are increasing.

Among these Art Rights, a platform that allows you to manage and certify works of art, which, among others, includes the Art Concierge service, thanks to which you will have the largest community of art professionals able to support you. at any time and for any situation.

And you, what do you think of the “State of the Art” that emerged from the Deloitte report?

The interviews of Art Rights Prize

Interview with Giacomo Nicolella Maschietti, Journalist, Art Market Expert – Digital Art Juror of Art Rights Prize

“It is full of artisans, I need to find artists”. Giacomo Nicolella Maschietti, Journalist and Expert of the Art Market as well as Judge for Digital Art of the Art Rights Prize does not mince words.

His thoughts on Art and Artists are often the subject of pungent articles for his column “Motel Nicolella”, where he has never spared reflections and stored up in the world of art. Like this one: “[…] Today’s artist is not contemporary. He is not in step with the times. He does not face the current world, the digital world. He doesn’t do it except in a superficial way, he caresses him to the maximum “.

Here in this interview Giacomo clearly addresses what he expects to find in the candidacies of Artists who measure themselves with Digital Art, who are not afraid of having 1000 years of art on their shoulders, but who instead have ideas that they can translate into works …

Professional journalist specializing in art and the market.

He has a degree in Philosophy of Science. He writes regularly for MilanoFinanza, GQ, MarieClaire Maison, Patrimoni, Private, Gentleman and has a column on ArtsLife “Motel Nicolella” in which he hosts and interviews art personalities.

Strategic consultant for the non-profit association SAVE THE ARTISTIC HERITAGE, he is also the television host of the “Top Lot” program on the “Class CNBC”.

He is an Art Market specialist for the IED Venice and IULM Milan Universities, as well as being an Art Consultant for companies engaged in CSR and for private collectors

1.For you, what importance does an Art Prize have in an artist’s career?

An art award plays a supporting role in the evolution of an artist’s career, favoring the promotion of the work of artists.

In this regard, he urges them in a series of actions that can allow the artist:

    • to rationalize their work: selecting the works of a project to submit for their candidacy, “forcing” the author to reflect on their work and “choose” in a conscious way with a view to proposing the best of their production
    • to get in touch with curators and art gallery owners who can help artists to manage and select their work, presenting it in a critical and structured way also to the collecting market, making the public perceive the novelties of language, creation and message and possibly the rereadings that the artist proposes.

Furthermore, participating in an award should be seen by every artist as an opportunity to broaden their horizons.

The award can offer an increase in visibility, local or international, a fundamental aspect for reaching a new audience and increasing one’s recognition on the market.

2.What would you recommend to an artist who wants to participate in an Art Prize?

The first tip is to fully understand the objective of the award. Including the objectives, the second recommendation is to tackle your own production, which can be huge, critically without the fear of “selecting” the works.

Each author is jealous of his work, because it is the result of an important effort and his own creativity, but it is necessary to create a cohesive set of works that create a project and above all express a thought or a message that the artist in his own creations wants to address to world.

3.What factors do you take into consideration when judging a nomination for an Art Award?

In judging a work for an Art Award, I tend to favor innovation in research both in the mode of production and, and above all, in the message that the artist intends to bring out.

I try to intercept new trends that aim at increasingly articulated insights and thoughts, or that can favor the use of new technologies with experimental methods, or that create “sets” in which to drop their messages or that try to re-read and update the past and memory investigating the contemporary.
