Discovering Johnny Boy, the NFT identity of Giovanni Motta

Discovering Johnny Boy, the NFT identity of Giovanni Motta

Giovanni Motta is one of the 50 artists featured in ‘CRYPTO ART – Begins’, the first NFT book chronicling the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” recounts the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the world’s best artists who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of its present and future revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Giovanni Motta

First a sculptor and then a digital artist, Giovanni Motta fascinated the NFT world with his childlike alter ego.

His works are an invitation to continuous self-discovery and to maintaining the will to explore, experiment and express oneself.

    WHO IS GIOVANNI MOTTA?

After graduating from high school with a degree in accountancy, Giovanni Motta started working in communications as a creative and advertising executive, thus beginning to deviate in the direction of creativity.

This attitude is no secret: in fact, the artist has always been fascinated by the Japanese manga and anime universe, which proves to be his gateway to the theme that characterises his artistic research, namely that of the inner child.

The first medium of artistic expression that Motta encountered on his journey was painting, which he mastered to the extent that he chose hyperrealism.

However, an innate curiosity for technology led him to approach 3D printing and animation, which he has been using since 2010 to create digital sculptures and animations.

Finally in 2020, Motta approached Crypto Art for what is a perfect marriage and within a year reached number one in the SuperRare rankings.

    HIS ART

To understand Giovanni Motta’s art, one needs to know Johnny Boy, a cartoon-like character design that gives life to the artist’s child alter ego.

Johnny Boy embodies every artist’s need to maintain a child’s curious perspective on the world. That ability to use the imagination to its fullest potential without fear of exploring outside the limits that is fundamental to making art.

This is how we see Johnny Boy investigating enchanted universes as in ‘Afternoon Garage’ (2021), an animated NFT that shows us the character taking off on an interstellar journey thanks to a rocket backpack.

The bright colours and plastic quality of the forms make Motta’s works visually accessible, emphasising precisely that dimension of innocence and childlike wonder that allows us to find beauty in everything.

But not all of Motta’s works deal with themes of positivity, in ‘I am the future’ (2021) Johnny Boy marches like a titan over a built-up area, incinerating everything he encounters with lasers shooting from his eyes.

The artist accompanies the work with a text that seems to suggest that the theme is the need to allow one’s self to express itself and be free in order to aspire to a happy future: ‘Don’t make me angry. I am the future, I am life. Let me go, let me run free, let me grow happy.”

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS OF GIOVANNI MOTTA

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book ‘Crypto Art Begins’ writes about Giovanni Motta:

“For Giovanni Motta, being an artist is a choice of Mother Nature that identifies a human being as an ‘instrument for producing art’ that, once created, is released into the world available for all to contemplate. For this reason, an artist should be in a perpetual state of crisis.”

The NFTs of Giant Swan come out of the movement

Giant Swan is one of the 50 artists featured in ‘CRYPTO ART – Begins’, the first NFT book chronicling the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” recounts the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the world’s best artists who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of its present and future revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Giant Swan

Giant Swan is an Australian digital artist who expresses himself mainly through the medium of VR.

His works are true visual experiences in which movement inspires the viewer’s emotional response.

    WHO IS GIANT SWAN?

Giant Swan is the stage name Travis Van Zanen has chosen to represent his artistic identity in his journey with digital art.

The medium through which he expresses himself is VR, a technique he has been exploring for years to create digital universes that can be experienced through videos, sculptures, images and 3D animations.

Giant Swan has been a leading figure in the VR world since 2017, and in 2019 his work comes to the attention of the art world.

The artist participated in Art Basel Miami as a guest artist in the show on art and technology. The following year, he collaborated on Godwana VR, an immersive installation with a strong emotional impact that reproduces the environment of Australia’s Daintree Rainforest.

Success in the NFT world is a natural consequence of his familiarity with digital art.

    HIS ART

The medium of expression is at the heart of Giant Swan’s artistic experimentation. His works originate from the recording of his body movements, which are then transposed into animations, images and 3D sculptures.

His contemporary influences such as Punk, Hip-Hop, pop culture and the gaming universe come together in images that are visually stimulating, catch the eye and invite you to stay and watch.

If movement is the theme that characterises Giant Swan’s creative process, the result is always marked by the experiential sphere. His works are intended for sharing and aim to provoke the viewer’s involvement.

The images Giant Swan creates develop from abstract elements such as lines and plastic shapes that unfold to reveal the familiarity of human profiles.

‘Recalling you in unrealistic fashion’ (2022) is the tale of a still moment removed from the flow of time. Two hands throw a child-like creature into the air.

The observer finds himself in the perspective of the person making the throw and is transported into an extremely intimate meeting of glances that has a bitter aftertaste of loss and abandonment.

The same melancholic vein returns in ‘The weight of this moment in time’ (2020). Two identical female figures find themselves kneeling over each other in the heart of a fantasy forest.

Giant Swan on SuperRare accompanies the work with the following words: ‘I have already been there. I know that path through that forest even though it’s been a long time now. You’ll carry that burden forever, but at some point you’ll also begin to walk with it’.

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS OF GIANT SWAN

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book ‘Crypto Art Begins’ writes about Giant Swan:

“With Giant Swan we discussed movement in VR and how it is free from the laws of physics, limits and perspectives. The technology is limitless freedom and knowing how to master it guarantees the opportunity to create an infinite intimacy where the audience can forget which medium has been used.”

CRYPTO ART – Begins presenta George Boya

In Federico Clapis’ NFTs, humanity is memory

In Federico Clapis’ NFTs, humanity is memory

Federico Clapis is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Arte through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Federico Clapis

Federico Clapis is a visual artist who was born as a painter and then found his expressive dimension in digital art.

His works transport us to a melancholy future in which humanity is relegated to the dimension of memory and all that remains of us is the memory in our relationship with technology.

    WHO IS FEDERICO CLAPIS?

Federico Clapis embarks on his journey with the virtual universe in an unusual way. For years he is a digital creator and produces viral content.

In 2015, at the height of his success, he decides to abandon his career on social media to get back in touch with his art.

His social presence therefore turns out to be a perfect stage to start sharing his paintings on canvas with the virtual community.

In 2021 Clapis finally takes its first steps in the world of Crypto Art.

His works with a strong digital component immediately capture the attention of the market, making the artist one of the most followed protagonists of the NFT scene.

    HIS ART

Spirituality is a recurring concept and very present in the art of Federico Clapis, where existential questions are addressed through the metaphor of technology.

This is how the images born from the artist’s mind are a manifestation of his introspective panorama, capable of visually translating his deepest emotional states and those moments in which his thought intercepts a possible image of the future.

In his work, Clapis uses different techniques such as 3D scanning and animation that help to give life to images that have both a virtual aura and a detailed realistic one.

The result is works that could portray reality if our future corresponded to a domain of technology and the virtual where what remains of humanity are relics petrified over time.

It is emblematic of this vision “End of the physical world” (2021), a work that depicts a recurring element of Clapis’ production: the “Babydrone” – a newborn curled up in a bundle and carried by a drone that takes the place of the dated stork.

In this work the Babydrone becomes a monument that seems to underline the surrounding post-apocalyptic scenario, suggesting that the human world is something so far from the present that it falls within the commemorative sphere.

The symbolic image of the newborn returns as an absent presence in “Grieving Conceptions – Flooded” (2022). The statue of a woman wearing a 3D viewer is immersed in the waters of a flooded industrial landscape.

The posture of the statue suggests that the woman is looking through the viewer at a newborn she is holding in her arms and that only she can still see.

WHAT ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT FEDERICO CLAPIS

Eleonora Brizi, art curator and founder of Breezy Art, she’s curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins”, writes about him:

“A very interesting starting point from my interview with Federico Clapis for whom the use of technology also represents a sort of liberation from matter, allowing him to return to the essence of the idea – as happened with the arrival of the NFTs – and to enjoy exclusively the artistic creative act”

Fabio Giampietro: space and time in NFTs

Fabio Giampietro is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the story and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presenta Fabio Giampietro

Fabio Giampietro is a digital artist who works by creating connections between Virtual Reality and painting.

His NFTs are studies on movement, spatial and temporal perception that push the viewer to investigate the different representative planes of the work with their eyes.

    WHO IS FABIO GIAMPIETRO?

Although art has been part of Fabio Giampietro’s existence since he was a child, the artist puts it aside during his university studies and then finds it again once completed.

His work follows the path of the pictorial tradition by introducing technology as an innovative element.

His first approach to digital art takes place through VR, but when Crypto Art begins to gain notoriety, Giampietro is one of the first to recognize its potential.

    LA SUA ARTE

His first NFTs are works created specifically for the crypto world. Portraits of representative characters for the universe of programming, such as Elon Musk or Alan Turing, and landscapes that portray futuristic cities.

His images take shape from compositions of buildings playing with the spatial and temporal perception of the viewer.

Giampietro carries on the experimentation introduced by Italian modern art movements such as Futurism and bends the spatial dimension to his will, creating images that hide different levels of visual representation.

His working method is very interesting because it involves the subtraction of colors from oil paintings on canvas.

“Hyperplanes – The Downward” (2018) perfectly reflects the artist’s aesthetic.

In this NFT we see a hyper-urbanized city collapsing on itself as if engulfed by a chasm.

The image seems both motionless and in motion, as if capturing an eternal temporal fragment.

It is no coincidence that many of Giampietro’s works are also made in VR format. In fact, the movement component is implicit and immediately perceptible in his work.

The movement is also present in the portraits of him, as in “Mendax”, where the face of the controversial character Julian Assange takes shape from what is actually a collection of buildings.

Is it Assange’s face that takes shape from the buildings claustrophobically juxtaposed to each other or the opposite?

The human eye is unable to tell, but this element of misunderstanding makes the image bewitching.

WHAT THE CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT FABIO GIAMPIETRO

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins” writes about Fabio Giampietro:

“Among the many inspirations we discussed with Fabio Giampietro in the interview, there are individual organisms that become complex machines and that the artist observes from a different point of view which he summarizes with ‘looking at things from above’, such as were cities “.

In Espen Kluge’s NFTs, human and digital meet

In Espen Kluge’s NFTs, human and digital meet

Espen Kluge is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of the Crypto Arte through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their projects NFT

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Espen Kluge

Espen Kluge was born as a composer, but he discovered his nature as a visual artist through programming.

His NFTs are Javascript-generated portraits that express the balance between human and digital of generative art.

    WHO IS ESPEN KLUGE?

Espen Klugehe is a capable artist to successfully carries on the passion for two disciplines: in fact, he is a composer for television and a digital artist.

If in creating music he abides by the rules of composition, art is a space where he feels free to test the expansion of the boundaries of visual representation.

The programming experience acquired during the development of a never completed musical project comes to his aid.

What seems like a failure turns into an opportunity and Kluge begins experimenting with programming to create images.

The contact with Crypto Art comes in 2019 when the curator of one of his physical exhibitions proposes him to coin his first NFT .

    HIS ART

In 2019 Espen Kluge debuts with “Alternatives”, a series of 100 NFT portraits generated with Javascript and distributed on OpenSea and SuperRare .

The work on personal interiority is the leitmotif of Kluge’s production. His works arouse a sense of disorientation in the viewer because they play with our evolutionary ability to read a face.

The decomposed portraits are created thanks to the generative abilities of an algorithm programmed by the artist to overturn our most familiar points of reference such as posture and expression.

The result is images that our brain immediately encodes as portraits, but which have an ethereal, synthetic and inhuman consistency in their familiarity.

A completely innovative perspective on generative art that is often criticized for its lack of human warmth. Kluge’s portraits manage to perfectly combine this feeling with an element of the unknown characteristic of algorithmic presence.

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS ABOUT ESPEN KLUGE

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of the 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins” writes about Espen Kluge:

In the interview with Espen Kluge, he reflected deeply on how programming is his main weapon. However, he never perfected this skill, because if he had been an expert programmer perhaps his art would have been different. Perhaps more aware, but less experimental and less spontaneous ”.

Dot Pigeon: NFT outside the conventions.

Dot Pigeon is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins,” the first NFT book chronicling the history and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” chronicles the exciting beginnings and evolution of Crypto Art through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their NFT projects.

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Dot Pigeon

Dot Pigeon is one of the most beloved contemporary artists in the world of Crypto Art.

His NFTs tell us about the inner struggle between belonging to a bourgeois life and the desire to live outside of convention.

    WHO IS DOT PIGEON?

Driven by the need to have additional space for creative expression outside his profession, Dot Pigeon developed his personal creative project in 2017.

His marketing skills support the smart decision to promote his works on Discord and Instagram.

Its first release on Nifty Gateway is a success.

Dot Pigeon soon became one of the most celebrated artists on the global Crypto Art scene, beloved especially by under-30 Americans.

    HIS ART.

Artistic identities sometimes arise to liberate, but also to question sides of the self that do not find space in the conventional life dimension.

This is what Dot Pigeon represents to its creator: an expressive identity brought to life through the “balaclava guy,” the artist’s alter ego and the protagonist of his most famous NFTs.

Dot Pigeon’s works always present us with what appears to be the scenario of a home invasion.

Hollywood villas are occupied by one or more young people with faces covered by balaclavas who seem to be at once comfortable and hostile to their surroundings.

Dot Pigeon’s NFTs speak the language of contemporary pop culture. There is never a shortage of references to the mainstream brands most prized by young people, and artworks by the market’s top-rated artists are ubiquitous on the walls of the villas generated by the artist’s imagination.

Graphic elements also appear in works such as “U couch activist” (2022), contributing to their communicative effectiveness.

Dot Pigeon shapes the inner contrast between a bourgeois life and the need to express one’s anarchic inclinations.

There is no lack of a strong element of social criticism. The hypocritical side of political correctness and toxic positivity materialize in the luxurious mansions that the protagonists of the works feel the need to vandalize.

The controversy lies in the characters themselves who, despite their desire to abstract themselves from this reality, are totally part of it.

“Burning them down in Balenciaga” (2020) tells us this, where the balaclava guy is portrayed in front of a burning mansion while smoking a cigarette. On him, however, he wears a sweatshirt from the high-fashion brand that clashes with the anti-elitist gesture he has just committed.

CURATOR ELEONORA BRIZI SAYS OF DOT PIGEON

Eleonora Brizi, curator and founder of Breezy Art, who curated for The NFT Magazine the selection of 50 artists featured in the book “Crypto Art Begins,” writes about Dot Pigeon:

After creating the environment for the artwork, Dot Pigeon’s photos depict him assuming the pose in which he imagined the character within the space. Next, the artist undertakes the actual art production. Just a hint of his creative process we discussed in the interview.

DANGIUZ’s futurist NFTs hide the present

DANGIUZ’s futurist NFTs hide the present

Dangiuz is one of the 50 artists featured in “CRYPTO ART – Begins”, the first NFT book that tells the story and evolution of Crypto Art

“CRYPTO ART – Begins” tells the exciting beginnings and evolution of the Crypto Ar through the history and work of 50 of the best artists in the world who contributed to its birth and are still an active part of the present and future of its revolution with their projects NFT

CRYPTO ART – Begins presents Dangiuz

Dangiuz is a digital artist who uses 3D drawing to create NFT works .

His art tells us about a fascinating dystopian future. The poetry of his aesthetics is an invitation to look that hides a warning about our future.

    WHO IS DANGIUZ?

As with many artists who revolutionize digital art, the passion for technology follows Dangiuz from a very young age.

When his studies bring him closer to graphics and photography, this interest is channelled into the creative dimension.

After carrying on his profession as a graphic designer for years, the call of art leads Dangiuz to feel the need to go back to creating by experimenting with new styles and techniques.

It is through 3D drawing that he arrives in the world of Crypto Art and the rest can tell the success that his art has had.

    HIS ART

Future scenarios are always excellent metaphors on contemporary times. This is the concept behind the Dangiuz NFT settings.

The artist’s cultural references that come from books, films and comics materialize in an aesthetic that references outrun, retro, cyberpunk and futuristic styles.

Only apparently similar aesthetics that Dangiuz knows how to combine harmoniously. The result is dystopian future scenarios with a strong poetic impact deriving from their evocative and allegorical sensitivity.

The essence of Dangiuz’s works is the awareness of the tragic nature of the realities he creates.

Their force of impact lies in speaking of the degeneration of the condition of human solitude into a future reality which is the consequence of the contemporary one.

Beauty hides an invitation to awareness and a change of direction.

The poetry of drift is even more raw in works such as “New Life” (2020), an NFT work that portrays an android mother with a future human being in her womb.

A metaphor for how technology is now part of our genetics, destined to dominate humanity by taking over the role of creator.

What will become of man? As in many of his works, also in “Act of Kindness” (2021) Dangiuz tells us about people who are prisoners of their own solitude.
