Snapchat: an AR lens to experience Christo’s “wrapped” Arc de Triomphe
The project was born in collaboration with Sotheby’s for the exhibition “The Final Christo: original works for the Arc de Triomphe”
After almost 60 years of studies and sketches, in these days the dream of the artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude has finally come true: to wrap up the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
A grandiose project, built after the couple’s death, with over 25,000 square meters of blue and silver fabric and 7,000 meters of red rope, which will cover the monument until 3 October.
Furthermore, as part of the installation, Snap Inc, in collaboration with Sotheby’s, has designed a new augmented reality lens that allows you to “experience” the packaging of the Arc de Triomphe via smartphone from anywhere in the world.
In fact, by scanning a Snapcode the user can “travel in time”: by clicking on various years (1962, 1988, 2018, 2020 and today), Christo’s sketches and studies are “superimposed” on the Arc de Triomphe, complete with noises and background sounds.
A real immersive experience in conjunction with the Selling Exhibition “The Final Christo”, which will take place at Sotheby’s in Paris.
24 works by Christo will be sold, including collages and preparatory drawings, which testify to the history of the project.
