{"id":4960,"date":"2018-10-10T18:34:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T18:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/migrate1.artrights.me\/metodo-castelli-leo-gallerista\/"},"modified":"2020-04-20T13:29:30","modified_gmt":"2020-04-20T13:29:30","slug":"the-castelli-method","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artrights.me\/en\/the-castelli-method\/","title":{"rendered":"The Castelli Method"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">A model for every gallerist<\/h2>\n<h2><em>Leo Castelli is recognised as the most avant-garde art dealer of the twentieth century and his method has become a model still viable today for the art market.<\/em><\/h2>\n<section class=\"content-section full-width with-col cover pb-70 pb-xs-50 rella-no-margin content-section-5a71cb13dc9ff\">\n<div class=\"row vc_row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column col-md-12\">\n<h2><!--more-->[signinlocker id=4040] Successful <strong>gallerists<\/strong> and <strong>collectors<\/strong> share a<strong> key element<\/strong>: the ability to look further and anticipate <strong>market trends,<\/strong>\u00a0shaping it into new directions, riding the wave with dexterity and not being overwhelmed by its impetuous race.<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Leo Castelli<\/strong> (Trieste 1907 &#8211; New York 1999) opens his gallery in <strong>New York<\/strong> in 1957, becoming over time <strong>leading model<\/strong>, for his ability to bring together a group of <strong>new artists<\/strong>, or rather <em><strong>innovative<\/strong><\/em>, taking care of their path with <strong>attention, presence and consistency,<\/strong> three words that we could define as illustrative of his practice as gallerist:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Attention:<\/strong> Castelli has had the ability to<strong> detect artistic poetics out of the market<\/strong> and understand them deeply, in order to communicate them to a wide and diverse audience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Presence:<\/strong> the artist needs to feel the presence of his gallerist, who is more than a guide, a comparison, a professional. Castelli <strong>never escaped his artists,<\/strong> indeed, he supported them even when they were not producing.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Consistency<\/strong>: Castelli built a<strong> real relationship of trust with the artists<\/strong>, which gave rise to a mutual loyalty and, therefore, a <strong>long lasting working relationship<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These simple but fundamental measures have allowed the Trieste-New Yorker gallerist to be able to boast the merit of having given voice to artists such as <strong>Jasper Johns<\/strong> or <strong>Robert Rauschenberg<\/strong>, his true discoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Not simply a business partner &#8211; historically the art gallery took care of the simple sale of the work, sharing fifty-fifty profit with the artist &#8211; but a\u00a0 very proactive collaboration, which started from providing an atelier up to the production materials.<\/p>\n<p>We therefore speak of a real <strong>Castelli Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A <strong>consistent artistic vision<\/strong> that was accompanied by a<em><strong> long-term relationship<\/strong><\/em> with the artists<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A 360 \u00b0 support:<\/strong> from technical needs like a space to work or production material, to the care of public relations with a press office service to <strong>launch the artist as a brand<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>International network<\/strong>, a network of contacts with galleries, art dealers and collectors not only in the United States, but also in Europe.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Brand Image,<\/strong> which was expressed with the attention to detail in its gallery, to the weaving of a set of relationships that nourished the &#8220;legend&#8221;
